How a Pool Works
This walks through how a pool moves from setup to payouts on Doog.Club. Most of the steps that used to be manual spreadsheet work now happen automatically.
Step 1: The grid fills in automatically
On the spreadsheet, you used to fill in the 10x10 grid by hand. On Doog.Club, players claim blocks themselves from the pool's page. Once all 100 blocks are reserved and paid for, use Assign Random Numbers on the Manage Pools page to randomize the row/column digits (0-9) - this is the equivalent of filling in the grid headers.
Step 2: Payout values are set when you create the pool
Instead of filling in a payout table on the Grid tab, you choose a payout model (54%, 80%, or a custom table) and a price per block when you create the pool. The Payouts page uses these to calculate how much each round's grid winner is owed.
Step 3: Round 1 team names
The 64-team bracket is shared across all pools. Team names for Round 1 are pulled automatically when available; if they aren't yet set, any pool admin can fill them in from the bracket editor (linked from the Manage Pools page).
Step 4: Enter scores as games are played
As the tournament goes, enter each game's score in the bracket editor. Use the "Check ESPN" button to cross-check what you typed in against ESPN's live scoreboard. When you do this:
- Each pool's See Bracket page will show that pool's grid winner in green next to the game.
- The winning team automatically advances into the next round.
Step 5: Settle up with the Payouts page
Each pool's Payouts page (visible only to that pool's owner) lists every game, its grid winner, and the payout amount for that round. It also totals up how much each player has won across the whole tournament - the equivalent of the spreadsheet's Pivot tab - and updates automatically as scores come in. Mark each payout as Paid once you've sent the money.
The Payoff Grid
A pool's Payoff Grid page (also owner-only) mirrors the spreadsheet's Grid tab: for each of the 100 cells it shows the winning/losing score digits, the player who claimed that cell, and what they owe/have paid for their block(s).
